Five original students of Taika Seiyu Oyata, who all trained at his headquarters dojo in KS and MO, ranging from 1978 until his death in 2012, decided in 2016 that we had core political differences with the way things were being handled with Taika's former organization. We had expressed the differences since the onset of the new leadership. A key element was the reversion to older forms and what seemed like the loss of over 30 years of Taika's progress, a loss of a more refined system. The five members above, all located within the Kansas City Metropolitan area, decided that they wanted a more stress free approach that they believed honored their training and core principles of Taika Seiyu Oyata. During a social engagement at Taika's home mere weeks before his passing, he told us to never let the art become a business, and to always stick together.

  • Train in the art in a manner that continued where he left off, using his principles to continue to grow.
  • Leave Ego Behind
  • Leave Ranks Behind
  • Leave Titles Behind
  • Leave Financial Ties Behind

This group and their students formed OyataTe International with those goals in mind and endeavor to transmit as much of the arts knowledge as we can within our lifetimes.
